Campsite near Banne, a village of stone and panoramic views in the Ardèche
Clinging to the hillside, the village of Banne offers a picture-postcard setting of history, blonde stone and breathtaking views. Just 15 minutes from the Lou Rouchetou campsite, this medieval village has an authentic, peaceful atmosphere, far removed from the hustle and bustle of tourism.
A BOURG
with a rich past
Banne is divided into two main districts, linked by ancient footpaths. On the higher ground, the castle ruins offer spectacular views of the Cévennes and the Païolive woods. Below, narrow streets lead to the church, craftsmen’s workshops and winegrowers’ houses. Gallo-Roman remains and traces of the Neolithic period are a reminder of the site’s age.
The commune was also a place of resistance during the French Revolution, and retains a vivid memory in its stones as well as in its cultural events. Every summer, concerts, exhibitions and night markets liven up the main square in a sober, friendly atmosphere.
Banne’s heritage is not ostentatious, but reveals itself to those who take the time to discover it. Visitors will find a rare richness: that of an inhabited and preserved village, where history never stands still. The path leading up to the château is also a great way to discover the Ardèche garrigue, with its scents and contrasting landscapes. It’s a must-see for lovers of old stones, local crafts and villages with authentic charm, to be visited in any season, even outside the busy summer season.

It’s easy to walk around Banne: just a few streets, but full of charm and panoramic views. In summer, you can attend an open-air event or visit a local artist’s studio. Out of season, it’s quieter and you can enjoy a more intimate visit, ideal for photography or reading a heritage panel in peace and quiet. The site is also a starting point for nature walks, with trails accessible to both beginners and experienced hikers. A wonderful interlude to add to your stay at Lou Rouchetou.
