Located some forty kilometers from Camping Lou Rouchetou, Vallon Pont d’Arc is undoubtedly the most emblematic site in the département. Known for its monumental arch sculpted by the River Ardèche, the town attracts travellers in search of spectacular nature, prehistoric history and life-size thrills.

Over 50 metres high, the Pont d’Arc natural arch is as impressive as it is awe-inspiring. It’s a landmark for geology enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. It is an ideal starting point for canoeing down the Gorges de l’Ardèche, an itinerary famous for its spectacular cliffs and crystal-clear waters. The site is also accessible on foot or by car, with areas set aside for swimming and picnicking.
Just a few kilometers away, Grotte Chauvet 2 invites you to leap 36,000 years into the past. This faithful recreation of the UNESCO-listed decorated cave offers a striking immersion in prehistoric cave art. A museum area completes the visit, with educational activities and temporary exhibitions.
The village of Vallon Pont d’Arc also lives to the rhythm of the tourist seasons. Craft stores, restaurants, local markets and cultural events keep the heart of this lively little town beating. From Camping Lou Rouchetou, it’s a 30-minute drive to Vallon Pont d’Arc. This excursion is ideal for a full day out, combining cultural discovery, relaxation and immersion in spectacular natural landscapes. The route itself is pleasant, passing through typical Ardèche villages and the rolling hills of the south of the department.
On site, start the day with a visit to Grotte Chauvet 2, usually less crowded in the morning. Then head for the Pont d’Arc for a refreshing swim or a stroll along the river. In summer, remember to book in advance for activities such as canoeing or guided tours of the cave.
The center of Vallon Pont d’Arc also offers plenty of opportunities for eating out or strolling through the lively alleyways. To avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting early or late in the day. In the evening, a return to the calm of the campsite will be particularly appreciated, after a day rich in discoveries.
